Building Precision Since 1982
Lawless Lasers began in Wunghnu, Victoria in 1982, when founder Graham Lawless recognised how laser technology was being adopted by the agriculture industry around Australia and overseas.
He saw the opportunity to make that same precision accessible to farming families in the Goulburn and Murray Valleys. Those first machines, Landplanes and small Drag Buckets, were built to help improve irrigation and productivity.
A Focus on Design and Improvement
In the early 1990s, CAD software was introduced into the workshop to improve accuracy and efficiency.
By 2010, 3D design tools had become central to the process, laying the foundation for machines that were more precise, durable and operator-friendly. This focus on smarter design, supported by trusted local materials and services, has remained at the heart of the business ever since.
From the Goulburn Valley to the World Stage
In the early 2000’s, the TurfGrader was introduced, changing the way turf was installed and maintained. It is now relied upon by small businesses, local sporting grounds, golf courses and stadiums across Australia and around the world.
Over the years it has played a role in preparing some of the world’s most recognisable venues and events, including the MCG, SCG, Eden Park, Doha Golf Club, the Sydney Olympics, The 2006 and 2018 Commonwealth Games, the 2011 Rugby World Cup, the 2015 ODI Cricket World Cup, the 2022 T20 Cricket World Cup, and the 2022 FIFA World Cup in Qatar.
Expanding Into New Industries
By 2010, Lawless Lasers had stepped into civil and domestic construction with the launch of Graham’s “50 Series” laser graders.
These machines extended the benefits of precision control beyond agriculture and turf, supporting contractors and operators working in new industries. The original 50 Series has since evolved into today’s AgriGrade, CivilGrade and EconoGrade products, while our current Scraper Series range carries the name in tribute.
A New Chapter of Leadership
In 2014, Graham’s nephew Brenton took over the business, bringing a strong background in design and fabrication. Brenton designs each machine with an emphasis on practical innovation, reliability and serviceability, with continuous refinement at the heart of the process.
Continuing the Spirit of Innovation
By 2016, Brenton’s EasyGrade range of skid steer attachments were in development.
The EasyGrade helped open up precision grading to industries beyond agriculture and turf, including landscaping, concreting and site preparation. It quickly became a trusted solution for contractors and councils who needed accurate results in versatile, compact machines. Its continuing evolution reflects our focus on delivering equipment that is efficient in the field and backed by readily available parts and service.
Growing to Meet Demand
In 2020, the business moved from its original Wunghnu workshop to a larger facility, just down the road, in Nathalia.
The move increased production capacity and allowed further investment in modern CNC equipment for laser cutting, pressing and machining. With a more efficient workflow, a steady supply of locally sourced materials and stronger ties with nearby service providers, this step strengthened our ability to keep building dependable machines and provide long-term support for our customers.
